This book features four friends, Maliyah, Jacob, Sarah, and Samson who struggle to finish their final fifth-grade year at Saint Mary's Primary School without being the main focus of teasing and bullying. The mean the kids at school refer to them as "The Odd Squad". Since first grade, this group of friends have had the task of trying to learn to be comfortable in their own skin because in many ways they were different from their schoolmates.

From Maliyah's struggle for acceptance of herself and from others as a biracial child with difficult to manage hair to Jacob's struggle with desiring to be accepted for who he was a very skinny boy with braces, thick-lensed glasses, and who played musical instruments that other kids felt should be played by only girls-their unique differences drew them closer together through the years. By learning the value of the meaning of true friendship and learning to trust in a power that was much greater than their own, together, they found strength, confidence and encouragement in coming to realize that being "different" held more power than they could have ever possibly imagine.

📚Let's Make a Butter Cake

Website - Www.joselinehardrick.com

A great story about baking a special cake and spending time with family. Bonus recipe in the back of the book!

Buy it in English, Spanish, and French.

Two young children spend the day with their grandma making a special treat from her native country, Haiti. They gather everything they need like flour, sugar, butter, and a very special ingredient that gives the butter cake its signature flavor. The children learn to make the cake step by step and dream of how yummy it will be as it bakes in the oven. Grandma is proud of her culture and wants to pass it on to her grandchildren. Today they learn about her culture while sharing a sweet treat.

This is a great book to share with your little ones to learn about baking as a special way to spend time as a family. Children learn about different cultures in many different ways, especially through food.

My mom’s classic Haitian Butter Cake recipe is included at the end of the book. Try it out today with your little ones. Enjoy!
